Member of Knesset Yael Cohen-Paran Acknowledged Belize’s Participation in “This is My Earth”
Member of Knesset Yael Cohen-Paran recently acknowledged Belize, through the its consulate in Israel, for its participation in the inauguration of This is My Earth. Her letter of appreciation is as follows:
The Honorable Yoram Naor
Honorary Consul, Belize
Your Excellency,
Thank you for your participation in March 28th, 2016 inauguration of This is My Earth (TiME), the new global network to protect critical ecological habitats in Israel’s Knesset. Begun by two of Israel’s leading ecologists, Professors Uri Shanas and Alon Tal who are working to save biodiversity through the conservation of critical habitats around the world. TiME’s model is unique: Using a crowdsourcing internet platform, TiME seeks to reach out to the world community, enabling every person on the planet to help reduce habitat destruction by purchasing land in biodiversity hotspots and joining a democratic and interactive organization. You can read more about their approach at this-is-my-earth.org.
We are delighted that Belize was selected as one of the three countries with ecological hotspots which are critical for conservation and to be prioritized during this first year of TiME’s activities. Pursuant to our discussions in the Knesset, we would be delighted to continue discussions with you and other representatives of Belize about how to cooperate in order to expand the support for the important preservation work of TiME and support ecological collaboration between our two countries.
When we consider the magnitude of present species lost and its irreversibility, the problem of biodiversity preservation emerges as one of the greatest challenges facing the international community. We look forward to work together with Belize to address this common challenge for humanity.
Sincerely Yours,
Yael Cohen-Paran,
Member of Knesset
