Guatemala Assumes the Presidency of SICA
Guatemala assumes the Pro Tempore Presidency of the Central American Integration System (SICA).
According to a statement from the Guatemalan Ambassador Mario Bucaro “(Guatemala) will do so with the aim of deepening integration efforts in the region, in accordance with the commitment assumed by our President, this a great time for Israel’s companies to have new oportunities for business.”
The Central American Integration System (in Spanish Sistema de la Integración Centroamericana, or SICA) has been the economic and political organization of Central American states since February 1, 1993. On December 13, 1991, the ODECA countries (Spanish: Organización de Estados Centroamericanos) signed the Protocol of Tegucigalpa, extending earlier cooperation for regional peace, political freedom, democracyand economic development. SICA’s General Secretariat is in El Salvador.
SICA’s institutional framework included Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama, Belize and the Dominican Republic.
SICA member countries’ ambassadors and consuls met yesterday to discuss Guatemala’s new presidency and to deepen the economical and commercial ties between the countries in the region. Present at the meeting were:

- H.E. Javier Valladares, Ambassador of Honduras

- Mr. Yoram Naor, Honorary Consul of Belize
- Mr. Roberto Spindel, President of the Israel-LATAM Chamber of Commerce
