New Beach in Caye Caulker
Tourists are sunbathing, playing, walking and flocking to the new beach in Caye Caulker and the island residents could not be happier. The new beach area at La Isla Carinosa was officially inaugurated on Saturday, March 12, 2016, with the Minister of Tourism and Caye Caulker Village Chairman, inviting everyone to enjoy and take care of it.
“Let me say that we are here to work for the interest of Caye Caulker. You have seen that time and time again, together with the Caye Caulker Village Council, we have made tremendous improvements in the streets also. We have connected the north part of the island with electricity and in the next couple of months we will connect it with potable water.”
“Sun and beach is one of our products at the Belize Tourism Board pushes and advertises,” stated Kevin Gonzalez of the BTB. “Seventy five percent of our visitors to Caye Caulker are Europeans coming for sun and beach and if you do not have the product to offer to your guests, you will certainly lose business,”
The project was half a million dollar investment that reclaimed over 2,000 linear feet of beach with widths varying from 40 to 118 feet in different areas; additional funding is being lobbied for to extend more beach area up to the Caye Caulker Split and further south of the island.
